When to visit Lisbon: the best months in the year to visit the capital of Portugal
Lisbon is a city you can visit year-round. However, if you’re looking for the warm days of southern Europe and Portugal’s welcoming beaches, you’ll need to choose the right months.
In this post, we’ll tell you which are the best months to visit Lisbon and enjoy all that this city can offer. So, read on to know when to visit Lisbon!
When is it the best time to visit Lisbon
There are two things you need to look out for when deciding when you’ll visit Lisbon:
- Weather
- Tourists volume
Weather in Lisbon
Summers in Lisbon are hot. Winters can be wetter than you’d like. But Autumn and Spring are perfectly balanced and warm enough.
Take a look at what to expect each month in Lisbon:
- Summer (June to August): The average temperature in those months in Lisbon is 25ºC, which can be pleasant. Although hotter than many European cities, you don’t need to worry about the temperature getting higher than 28ºC or 30ºC around noon.
- Autumn (September to November): Temperature drops to an average of 20ºC. September is still pleasant, not hotter than 26ºC and not colder than 17ºC. In November, the temperature drops more significantly and precipitation starts to climb.
- Winter (December to February): The colder and wetter days of Lisbon. Rainfall reaches its high, with an average of over 100 ml. You can expect that it will rain in about a third of these days.
- Spring (March to May): This season is not as wet as the Autumn, and still has mild temperatures. Therefore, It’s one of the best times of the year to visit Lisbon. The average temperature is around 14ºC and there are not many wet days.
Lisbon Tourism season
The Lisbon tourism season happens from June to September. In these four months, the temperature is at its high and precipitation at its low. That means days are hotter and drier, which drive international tourists to the amazing Lisbon beaches.
It may be wise to avoid this high season and try to visit Lisbon in the Spring or Autumn. However, if you don’t mind a crowd (and if you prefer to face it to enjoy Lisbon beaches on the hot days), maybe this is the right time for you.
Make your decision
If we agree that winters should be avoided, you have two options: go with the crowd in the summer or take the cooler days of Spring or Autumn. Either choice, Lisbon will prove to be a great trip destination!
